Ebukhosini Solutions proudly announces its 10th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration to be held on Monday, 26 December 2011 at the Yeoville Recreation Centre, Yeoville at 12h00. The day will be celebrated with a fully packed exciting programme including music, poetry, short speeches, as well as separate programmes for children and youth. All are invited to bring a dish to contribute to the common table from which the celebration will share the variety of foods on this joyous occasion.
In December 2002, Johannesburg's very own Kwanzaa Celebration was attended by a small number of people who knew about this Pan-African holiday observed from 26 December to 1 January every year in various communities in Africa, North America and Europe. Over the years, participation at the Kwanzaa Celebration has increased significantly and is celebrated by members from a variety of African communities resident in Johannesburg.
Under the theme Shaping Afrika's Future, Ebukhosini Solutions highlights how Africans across the continent are embarking on a renewed commitment to influence their futures. There is no doubt that 2011 was unprecedented with 27 African countries holding crucial presidential, legislative and local elections. In this year, we also witnessed the power of African people in voicing their concerns and demanding change. From Tunisia, to Egypt, Ivory Coast and Libya, citizens spoke and took actions that directly affected the course of their political, social and economic lives. With their actions it is evident that Africans are embarking on a new path to Shape Africa's Future.
In observing the 10th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, Ebukhosini Solutions acknowledges the enduring spirit of African people and their courage to be fearless in being action- and solution-oriented.
While often perceived as a 'foreign' holiday, Kwanzaa has its roots firmly established in principles of Feasts of First Fruits celebrated around the African continent. It also has particular relevance to South African ceremonies. Buntu explains:
"Kwanzaa is in fact directly linked to research on South African ceremonies. The format and content of festivals such as Umkhosi, Incwala, Dikgafela and Thevuola were carefully studied as an inspiration for Kwanzaa."
On 26 December, Ebukhosini Solutions will open the 10th Celebration of Kwanzaa in Johannesburg with the first principle of Kwanzaa, "Umoja" which means unity. Young and old members of the African community are invited to celebrate Africa's diversity and pride.
Happy to join my friends in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Kwanzaa in the USA, today, December 26, 2011
