International partnerships, expansion and globalization contribute to the ever increasing number of globally managed teams relying upon, telephonic and web based communications as the only vehicles for leadership and management. In two recent surveys around 80% of people identified themselves as being part of a virtual or remote team. Time zone differences headline practical issues but much more fundamental problems threaten virtual teams. A failure to utilise technology effectively to build relationships and develop trust is creating a social and cultural deficit in teams that is undermining and threatening team capability. Basically remote leaders tend to focus on task rather than people issues and it's proving disastrous!
The Aim of these two, two-hour interactive WebEx seminars is to develop understanding of the needs of virtual teams and how fundamental social and cultural aspects are to successful team output. We will look at a range of practical tools and skills that can be utilised to redress the balance and develop a high performing virtual team.
Objectives -- to have:
• Considered the fundamentals that undermine effective remote team leadership and to identify means to avoid or overcome them
• Evaluated personal leadership style personal impact and influence via web media
• Considered the idiosyncrasies and practiced skills for coaching via web media
• Established key needs for establishing a virtual team culture
• Examined a range of techniques that can be utilised to established effective communication other vital remote team process
• Developed key skills for remote team social and cultural value creation
