Great stuff bro. I really enjoyed watching you do this process. Recording musician myself. Great annotations on the video too lol. If you wanna sell that Fostex, let me know. Thanks so much for sharing this one. Great vid bro.

Another good trick if you only have two tracks is to record a simple clap or click sound at the very beginning of all 8 tracks on the Fostex. Then use this to line them up visually once they're in the computer.

This is exactly the reason I bought an 8-channel sound card for $150. Makes this sort of thing A LOT easier. And you can bypass the Mackie which really degrades the sound.

You're right, it would definitely make it easier. By now I don't know how much more of this I'll be doing, though; it's kind of a process of salvaging the last few things that haven't been salvaged, none of which are exactly in pristine quality to begin with.

That may be true. But really, it helps in more places than restoration. Every time I have a jam session and don't want to use tape, I use my 1010lt. Plus I can mix in surround sound now!

Oh, believe me, it's something I'd like to get eventually, and $150 seems pretty affordable on its own. It's just that "pretty affordable" things add up, and we sometimes have to choose what to buy next based on what we need the most urgently. The bulk of my recording is one part at a time at the moment; otherwise it would have been a higher priority.
