@linusvanpelter Agreed. 70s sucked; now sucks. The best time was 50s, early 60s, and the 90s. Then reality shows were introduced killing good scripted dramas
The first promo was for the lineup on Wednesday, September 28, 1977 {Brad Crandall, announcer}:
"THE LIFE AND TIMES OF GRIZZLY ADAMS": "Hot Air Hero"
"THE OREGON TRAIL": "The Water Hole"
"BIG HAWAII": "Sun Children"
"Killer on Board", a typical "all-star" TV movie concerning a virus decimating a cruise ship [think of it as a "serious" version of "THE LOVE BOAT"], also featuring George Hamilton, Frank Converse and William Daniels [and Jane Seymour], aired on Monday, October 10, 1977.
NBC's 1977-'78 prime-time schedule was, to put it mildly, "a mess". About the only weekly series that were successful for them that season were "THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY", "LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE" and "THE ROCKFORD FILES". NONE of their new series lasted through the season. The Wednesday night schedule, as promoted here, collapsed after several weeks; "THE LIFE AND TIMES OF GRIZZLY ADAMS" hung on until the end of the season.
