This song had been stuck in my head for the last several months, and I would always play air guitar during the solo. Last week, I decided to just take some time and learn the thing. It took me about an hour to get the solo figured, and then another hour to get the effect dialed in. I used the DigiTech RP350 with all sorts of effects: compression, cabinet simulation, reverb, fuzz, wah, and rotary. It's such an iconic solo. I have listed to the solo at least 50 times now, but don't seem to tire of it. it's fun to play.

  • Pure Talent!

I'd sure like to hear you play some Steely Dan.

  • Thanks for the feedback! Definitely something to look into; so many good solos, so little time.

  • dude what kinda guitar is that!

  • @TrueDarkLink It's a G&L ASAT that I had custom built; it's the Deluxe Semi-Hollow

  • Sounds great and helped me finally learn it which I always wanted to do. Thanks. I have similar effects but dont use the "sizz-fizz" (digitech), I reckon it sounds better, less slashing and more like the real deal with just wah, fuzz and a lot of compression.

  • @TheDaddyCokes Thanks for the comment; glad it helped out. Totally agree about the digitech; it gets close, but does not nail it completely.

  • Great!)

  • I also have a digitech rp 350 and would love to grab the patch you used. You should post it to the digitech sound community site where there are tons of great patches.

  • Oof. Top drawer. A step by step would be swish.

  • Any chance of a tutorial,you nailed it.Great stuff.

  • i love this song and solo. The solo always reminds me of Johnny Marr's style of playing for some reason. especially around :15 - :26. Great Tune.
