Extrusion dies are traditionally produced on vertical machining centers however there are many advantages to using a horizontal. This video shows a Makino horizontal machining center roughing and finishing a Z-contour path on an extrusion die using a 4mm neck ball endmill for roughing, and a 2mm ball pencil-style mill for finishing. The additional B-axis and pallet changer enable automated window fixture machining, for continuous around-the-clock machining.
