On April 17, 2007, Jon "Bowzer" Bauman of Sha Na Na spoke before the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media in support of Assemblymember Anthony Portantino's Assembly Bill 702, the Truth in Music Act. The bill would protect the public from falsely advertised performance groups by mandating that a musical or performance group contain at least one member of the original recording group, or hold a trademark from the original act, in order to publicly perform using the original group's name.

  • Lisa, take your rap music and shove it! You wouldn't know REAL music if it bit you in the ass! Bauman NEVER passed himself off as any of the iconic groups and the artists actually supported his attempts to revive a lot of the original rock songs!

  • GOOD LAW . Have you ever noticed that people who play the idiot role on TV shows are usually the smartest person on the show ? A lot of times it is true.

  • Sha nana? Shana na? Sha naw naw?

  • The late Gladys Horton had to suffer the indignation of seeing imposters make a lot of money singing a song that she made #1 as lead singer of The Marvelettes(Please Mr. Postman). I wish that she were alive to see Jon Bauman's victory for The Drifters, The Platters and The Coasters.

  • BOPDIDY BOP BA DANG A DANG DANG--WHO CARES

  • I thought they were referring to stuff like Milli Vanilli.

  • Bowzer needs to get a new schtick.

  • Bowzer, I had no idea you had this serious side to you. Well spoken. Good job.

  • @jimmydcap you are correct. He was in the movie with the rest of Shanana during the dance scene as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers.

  • @rebelrecording Ill admit i dont know all the details. If there are legit sha na players in it,i dont see a problem. Some of it may go to who owns rights to the name,& such.

My ladyfriend owns Alexia Dreamz entertainment,& shes into all the legal stuff in music.studied it for years.I just wait for a band to sober up enough to record them!

& if you get a chance, check out the new street survivors out there.all the unreleased originals!Good stuff!!!!
