The Community of St. John was founded by a Swiss Dominican while teachinig philosophy at a French university after a number of his students asked him for spiritual direction. The students became so attached to him that they eventually founded a religious community based on what the domincan friar had taught them.

  • Yes, indeed they are good priests, but this community that I know because it serves a parish neighbooring my home, currently endure hardships, and was subject of an apostolic visitation last year. So they need our prayers.

    Pax et Bonum.

  • @donhenri01 Im not surprised, they were founded in france :).

  • Is this a new order in the making?

And why did the founder think he had to leave the OP to create a new community?

Wait a minute, is this the community joined by "Paddy Kelly"?

  • @BlackCappa No, they were founded in the 80's I think and Marie Domnie Phillipe NEVER left the OP's. As for Paddy Kelly: I don't know who that is, sorry.

  • @BlackCappa to answer your question yes, Paddy Kelly is a CSJ priest. I recignise the habit as such. Sorry for all the confusion.

No problem. I myself needed some time to recognize the community. They have been badmouthed a lot in German media: being "cult-like" and "ultra-conservative". The Kelly family have defended the community though.

  • @BlackCappa they are contemplative monks with an apostolate. They pray the liturgy of the hours together and have about two hours of silent prayer a day. As for conservative, they take after the Dominican philosophy, so you can be the judge of that.

Awesome! God bless all His faithful servants and the entire Church.

It's the community I was talking about. Paddy Kelly was a member of the "Kelly Family" - a very popular band in Germany. He left the band and entered the monastery. He now makes religious music: one in honour of the Blessed Virgin is on youtube even.
