  • the reason those movies you mention are great is because they are character driven movies, the plot and special effects to not overpower human behaivor and emotion. The characters are every relatable which allows for a more pleasureable film experience.

  • Great documentary

  • @plastique45 This is year later and I just want to say, if you don't think Jaws is a great film for what it is and Lord of the Rings well-made, then you need a slap in the face for being such an obnoxious snob. There are good mainstream films and bad mainstream films. There are good independent films and bad independent films.

  • raging bull is amazing!!!!

  • @plastique45 I don't know what you're talking about, those three are some of the best big budget films of all time. Jaws may be the best summer blockbuster ever made.

  • "I hope they don't think that all big budget films are bad because Star Wars, Jaws, and Lord of the Rings are great, well-made films."

Unless you are 12 y old, you need a slap in the face and a film crash course.

  • yeah really is but it's an era that would never have lasted, things just got too out of hand with the inmates running the asylum. Still, some brilliant films made.

  • Nothing to do with that. It used to be all about the directors and creativity. Spielberg made it about the studios, producers, and financial success. Jaws is great but the industry got completely fucked by it. No longer is it about art, just commercialism with an occasional hidden gem. Obviously the seventies had some bad movies, what decade hasn't? But that was a time when people cared about their films.

  • I hope they don't think that all big budget films are bad because Star Wars, Jaws, and Lord of the Rings are great, well-made films. It's not their fault a bunch of crap big budget films came after that, that's the studio's faults. And really some of the 70s films were really crappy too we just don't talk about them anymore. Also some of these 70s directors need ot take more responsibility. Some caved in themselves due to their own egos, vanity projects, drug taking and self indulgence.

  • A sad end. (Sigh)
