More testing of my homebuilt gas turbine jet engine. I plan on making some flametube modifications to see if we can get higher rpms and eliminate the turbo surge.

  • My first plan is to maybe taper the flame tube so it funnels the gas into the turbine. If that doesn't reduce the surge, then I may put a bleed valve in the combustor to bleed some of the pressure before the turbine section.

On a related note, my afterburner is almost done and will undergo testing soon!

  • So it appears that 17 psi at 102,000 rpm stalls the compressor blades. Is your plan to reduce the backpressure in the burner and associated plumbing? I have heard of people trimming the turbine blades to reduce backpressure and get the compressor up to higher rpms where it can handle more pressure.

  • that's the fun of this hobby ,getting your head round any problems you encounter :-)
