This shorty video clip show the interior and exterior shots (recorded on 6th August 2009) of the New Home on offer from South Somerset District Council.
As Gillian McCarthy suffers from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, and registered disabled. We'll let the viewers decide if this replace home is suitable for Gillian's needs?
Re GILLIAN MCCARTHY Born 1954
Address: The Stop Gap, Barkers Field, Shepton Montague, Wincanton, Somerset BA9 8JA
LOCAL AUTHORITY ARRANGE TO EVICT A VERY SICK WOMAN TO HER POSSIBLE DEATH
Next Monday South Somerset District Council will make a sick, disabled cancer sufferer homeless and bulldoze her temporary' home of the last thirteen years.
Gillian McCarthy has multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS), electrical sensitivity, multiple allergies, anaphylaxis and cancer tumours from past chemical and toxic heavy metal exposure. She is living in the most extraordinary circumstances near Wincanton in Somerset. 55 year old Gillian is a biochemist and world-renowned horse nutrition expert but has been unable to work for many years since accidents and chemical exposure during the 1980's.
Gillian has been living in poorly maintained, damp and mouldy, wooden huts in the corner of a field on an organic farm, without running water, electricity, heating or proper sanitation suitable for a MCS sufferer, and without appropriate care or counselling for her disabilities for the past thirteen years. No other suitable accommodation has been found, although a specialist architect, Dan Stainer-Hutchins has designed a low-energy, low-allergy, chemical and toxin-free house for her, but she is without immediate funding for this. It is quite an extraordinary story and you may have come across this lady as she has had some publicity in the past.

The urgency arises because her local authority, South Somerset District Council are evicting her from her present 'safe' environment this next Monday 10th August 09 at 10.00 am. The huts she has survived in will be destroyed. She has nowhere safe to go to nor any safe means to go by. The SSDC have misunderstood her predicament and proposed an unsuitable caravan made from toxic substances in a location that would be dangerous for her state of health, but that is their only offer. It is a complicated but desperate situation and all legal avenues of appeal have been exhausted.
Dr Paul Banks a friend of Gillian said "If this eviction is at all "legal" is debatable. But it is certainly highly immoral and probably criminal...".
Gillian is extremely chemically sensitive so is unable to travel or be transported to a standard care hospital. Chemicals used to sanitize NHS hospitals would cause a chemical overload for Gillian, she cannot even cope with a visitor who wears clothes washed in detergent or is wearing cosmetics or perfume. There are no clinics or hospitals in the UK with the necessary conditions or equipment available to support her needs. The nearest intensive care specialising in MCS appears to be in Germany.
Gillian's DNA has been tested and found with Phase 1 P450 enzyme faults and acetaldehyde, benzene and benzopyrene Phase 2 liver detoxification methylation damage. Because of her circumstances it has been practically impossible to devise a suitable treatment regime for her in her present living arrangements. Gillian does not wish to stay where she is because the conditions are intolerable and have been for years with no heating or lighting or water, however with no safe alternative she wishes to stay put, coping as best she can, until safe housing has been built. This is planned by 'Safe as Houses - CIC Ltd' who have been offered a suitable site on donated land at Southdown Farm. The funding and financial arrangements and planning consent are currently urgently being sought.
Roger Moller of Electric Forester, friend of Gillian, said "A stay of execution on whatever basis the council decides is in their best interests, is the only viable way forward. If Gillian perishes through this forced eviction, those who will have Gillian's blood on their hands will need to come to that conclusion themselves."
Gillian urgently needs a specialist hospital/clinic that can provide intensive in-patient care in a chemical and electrical free environment and where patients can be given tests and treatments suitable, such as intravenous chelation and suitable nutrition. Gillian is unable to pay for any private treatment. As appropriate treatment for MCS is unavailable to her, her only option is to stay where she is until that safe environment is created or found. Sadly she is likely to die from anaphylactic shock from any other treatment or environment that exposes her to environmental allergens and toxic chemicals that most people cope with day to day.

  • Does the South Somerset District Council understand basic needs required for habitation in 2009 let alone risk assessment?

  • Nobody with MCS can live in a mobile home. Mobile homes give people MCS.

  • I couldnt go in there at all!!!! You might wonder how I can live in a car because I cant go in a house - & I cant. Summer is coming and the heat on the plastic is going to kill me. No government or council in this country is interested in what happens to people like us. Gillian have you been detoxing the last 11 years? How much are all the autoimmune illnesses I have impacting on this or is the nervous system damaged?

  • I have known Gillian McCarthy for years. Have visited her in her tumble down shacks in Wincanton and seen how ill she really is first hand, and how utterly inhuman her living conditions are there (see my channel for more videos on this). As a severe MCS sufferer myself there is not the slighest doubt in my mind that Gillian McCarthy condition is totally genuine - and that she has, and is suffering terribly. See the MCS International web site for more info on Gillian - and this terrible illness.

  • she is a total fake people living in the area know this!!!!

  • hello

  • she is a fake

  • Sadly this doesn't suprise me!! As a disabled person i am no longer shocked by clueless council workers or social workers that have no idea about day to day living for someone with a disability.

Keep up your fight and i do so hope you get it sorted.

  • This is a disgrace and a case of basic human rights and needs, they are supposed to be moving gillian here today by force. And to call it end view is very sad , something has to be done .

    michelle kenmure.

  • Wonder who brain box is, who we are paying for, that came up with this? Quite bizarre.
