Los Angeles is loaded with many secret waterfalls and off-trail hiking spots. And, many of them rest in Big Tujunga Canyon, just north of the city. The upper section of Big Tujunga is loaded with waterfalls, nevertheless, it's not a secret and much of it's natural beauty has been altered by taggers and those leaving trash everywhere.
Nevertheless, for those hikers that don't mind off trail adventures, there's a lot of fun to be had, particularly swimming and jumping into refreshing pools. However, the window to come here is short, normally from late April through early June. Come any later and the flow dies and rattlesnakes take over! And, if you aren't in good shape, down to get wet and dirty, don't come here!
