The first preliminary final of 2009 saw the Dogs beaten in the final stages of the match, ending their 2009 season with a heartbreaking loss and continuing a drought of only one premiership in their entire history. The Saints on the other hand, grasped victory and broke through to their first Grand Final appearance since 1997, and a chance at only their second premiership in their club's history. Nick Riewoldt was the hero once again.

  • Agenda umpiring..., one free kick ruined a season for the Bulldogs, a better side all year, including in this game. You probably will never see such a soft free kick again, but it's something Riewoldt has built an entire career on. I never used to mind the Saints, but I've wished nothing but bad things for them from that day on.

  • NICK RIEWOLDT- BLOOODY LEGENNNDDDD!

  • this was fucking robbery for us... fucking saints I HATE YOU!!!! -___-

  • more like nick WEEwolt hahaha

  • @ST44KILDA so shouldn't you blame your team for lacking the skill to play in different weather conditions? Geelong have no problems with playing in wet weather neither should your team.

  • @microastronomy yeah now that riewoldt is outplaying the saints will actually be a fair game (in regards to umpiring)

  • Agreed microastronomy, this one free kick turned the game on it's ear, a pathetic call and one which cost the Doggies a deserved grand final berth.

  • Amazing the armchair ride Riewoldt gets from the umpires. Was shown again in the NAB cup GF. God he is protected like the Princess continually proves to be.

What happened to the days where players like Carey, Dunstall, Ablett, Grant and even Hall earned every kick they had?

Changed the whole game this one Free Kick. Never once payed before and I guarantee you will never see it again.

Hope the rules committee are proud of the game the are slowly and definitively destroying.

  • lol, bet u wish u didnt say that now
