Grouper "Mini Me" learning to eat Lionfish - Little Cayman, Cayman Islands

Lionfish have invaded the Cayman Islands and the Dive Staff of the resorts are teaching the groupers (Nassua) to eat Lionfish.

This video was shot approximately a year ago and it shows Sunny (the divemaster) hand feeding a small dead lionfish to one of our friendly Nassua Groupers (Mini Me).


"Mini Me" has now eaten over 100 Lionfish (dead and alive) and keeps coming back for more! "Mini Me" now recognizes the lionfish and has gone after them on his own with dive staff and guests watching.

We are hoping other groupers will observe this behavior and learn that Lionfish are tasty spicy treats!
