A double train in Worcester Union Station layover yard in Worcester, MA on 7/23/08.

Two trains are coupled together probably because the geep in the end died. (This is not the Foxboro extra as this was taken in July). It is also probably not related to the derailment at South Station a couple days earlier.

Did you count it right? 2 engines, and 13 cars is the answer.

  • Is that graffiti on the coach at 0:18 ?

  • cool buy why didnt they take the f40ph2c out and put it the other end of the train

  • If the geep died, they could not just take the F40PH-2C off and hitch it. Except in emergencies, a yard crew is required for all coupling and uncoupling. An electrician would be required for jumper cables, an air/brake test is needed, etc. If the geep died on the mainline, the best thing to do would be to hitch the other train to it and keep going.

An F40PH-2C CAN pull that many cars with the dead engine. The hard thing is braking as the train needs more time and distance to brake.
