The CISS Rockin' Revelers Review Band playing Feliz Navidad at the Crowne Plaza. This is the short clip version (you're welcome!) This is the 3rd and 4th grade band. Natalie is playing a pianica (see below for an explanation!). Video pretty bad as my location was not ideal! Sorry about that. It is my first attendance at band concert and didn't realize that parents arrive 45 minutes to get a front row seat.
What is a Pianica? It is also known as a melodica. The melodica, also known as the "blow-organ" or "key-flute", is a free-reed instrument similar to the melodeon and harmonica. It has a musical keyboard on top, and is played by blowing air through a mouthpiece that fits into a hole in the side of the instrument. Pressing a key opens a hole, allowing air to flow through a reed. The keyboard is usually two or three octaves long. Melodicas are small, light, and portable. They are popular in music education, especially in Asia.
