Crytek Buys Free Radical Design- News from Kotaku Website

Free Radical Design (which before was working on Star Wars: Battlefront 3), a video game company that filed bankruptcy in December 2008, that's famous for their TimeSplitters game series has been bought by Crytek, a game company known for their games: Crysis and Far Cry and has saved Free Radical. Hopefully this means that Free Radical (or Crytek) will finish off from where they started on the TRUE version of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 which we saw in the leaked footage videos, and create a TimeSplitters 4. When free Radical was bought by Crytek back in December 2008, they lost the rights to make star wars Battlefront 3. The project may be taken over by Pandemic (makers of battlefront 1&2) or Rebellion developments (makers of Battlefront: Rogue Squadron). But it is unclear of who is taking what. Battlefront 3 was in development for 2 years, a longer wait is definatley inevitable.

Free Radical lost the rights to make the game in October 2008, because Lucasarts got cold feet over the game Haze that FR made and also since they heard rumors about FRD closing. And they were bought by Crytek in February 4 2009 and the company was then renamed Crytek UK. They can buy the rights back, but the statis of the game is unclear. As for all we know, this game could have been thrown in the garbage, but hopefully that didn't happen.

Yes, my mistake you are correct. Unfortunately Free Radical won't be working on this game anymore. They have no plans to go back to this game, it's a shame but I think LucasArts made a good decision by taking the rights away. I don't want this game to turn out HAZE or any other epic fail game that Free Radical made. But the gameplay looked pretty cool.

I don't think FR was going to make BF3 bad. The leaked video alone satisfied me more than the first two battlefront games. And looking at the leaked footage, it looked like FR was going for a multiplayer-focused game and an actual REAL campaign (with epic cutscenes) and not that crappy campaign that Pandemic gave us in BF1 and 2. Plus the ground to space feature. I mean pretty much all developers have made at least one unsatisfying game. If FR's work is kept in the game, then I'll be glad.

I agree, the gameplay looked faster-paced than the other battlefronts, and the new features looked awesome. But the ground to space feature Free Radical said that it was "dead". I guess they couldn't perfect that feature so they probably wouldn't have included that feature if they were still developing the game.

Yeah, though it would be revolutionary if they were successful in creating the ground to space feature. If this game is in fact with a different developer, they most likely will keep all of Free Radical's work in the final version of the game (minus the ground to space feature). I mean FR said they were just about done with the game, so the new dev would probably just have to polish the game up. But as long as all of FR's(Crytek) work is in the game and they get credit, I'll be satisfied.

Lucasarts are dumbasses after Free radical filed bankrupt they first wanted to give the contract to rebellion ( ok doesn't suck that hard) they declined

so they decided to give it to PANDEMIC!?????

but i disliked the first two because of their lack of realism and compared to the movies the sounds didn't match

the leaked free radical version gave me more satisfaction than the played versions of pandemic

i hope crytek finishes it
