It just looks like the planets were 3d, then zoom in, and because of the spherical form, it would seem 3D. Or am I mistaken?

@JaapVSW that's exactly right. All the planets are just a flat 2 dimensional image that just appears to have depth to it because I'm zooming through a 3D space.
