2007 marks 30 years of the Australian Democrats. The following ad is a flashback to 1990 when Janine Haines led the Democrats to their best ever election result
Yes.........by far the best Democrats leader ever............back in a time where they actually meant something...........before the dark times. Like everything else in life, they were a victim of their own early success.........suddenly everyone wanted a slice of the pie.............eventually infighting destroyed the party. Dont just blame NSD or Meg Lees..........it was a group effort. Like the old expression goes............"TEAMWORK: share the victories..........share the defeats!"
they weren't ever a proper third party in the sense that they didn't ultimately have ambitions of forming government. Their intended goal was to 'keep the bastards honest' - the bastards in the house of reps - the government and the opposition
perhaps the worst election broadcast ever? I'm from the UK and I didn't even know Australia a Democrat party lol. Just thought you guys had to suffer the two party system like we do.
Oh Janine, Janine - it all went downhill for the Dem's after you left. Maybe if you had won Kingston, things would have been a little different? Your'e in a good place with Don, somewhere, I'm sure. RIP
We all need to vote Democrats in 2013 to bring them back!

No, Meg Lees started the rot.
Cheryl Kernot was where it was at.
That's why she got poached.

I thought they went totally to shit after Natasha Stott-Despoja took over from Meg Lees.
Meg Lees was not attractive, but she was a good leader.
Stott-Despoja didn't understand her role, and destroyed a productive political party.
