From the classic Daniel Keyes novel "Flowers for Algernon" comes this moving and unforgettable adaptation. Featuring an Academy Award winning performance(best actor) by Cliff Robertson and a "shrewd, talented" score (Variety) by Ravi Shankar, this timeless tearjerker is "definitely one to see". When a mentally retarded man named Charly (Robertson) undergoes experimental brain surgery, he is miraculously freed from the prison of his own mind. As his IQ soars to genius proportions, Charly's eyes are opened to a world he's never truly seen. But when the effects of his operation inexplicably begin to fade, Charly must find a way to halt his regression before his own mind destroys his life, his newfound romance(Claire Bloom) and the man he's become.

Hell, I'm a guy, and I cry at this movie and at the end of Schindler's List every time. I also laugh my ass off at movies like Animal House and There's Something About Mary, not to mention scream occasionally during Paranormal Activity. Don't be afraid of emotions, they're what make us human.

wow the spelling in this movie shows how outdated it is, nite is actually accepted as a correct albeit different spelling of night now. Shows how much language has changed in 41 years.

This is one of the best movies of all time. The story it was based on was a collection of notes by the title character, presented in a chronological way to tell the story as it happened. This film is very faithful to that earnest, straightforward, yet simple style. Cliff Robertson is amazing as Charly. When I was in eighth grade, this was the movie that we all (on our own) went to see in the theater. It was the movie that everyone had to see. A far cry from the stupid movies of today!

My class is reading this book. Well, technically we're just reading the short story. But I would call that a novella because it's 50 pages long! So far, I LOVE IT, but i'm sad we're not reading the novel version. :'(
