Built by unknown builder. Hotrodded a bit and modified with sozo caps. Stock weber speaker

Purchased from Doylestown Guitars in Doylestown, PA

I can't tell you how much I am in tonal heaven right now. I have wanted a 5e3 clone ( and a place to live where I could actually crank one up ) for over 3 years now. Well I've been in a cool place for a year now, and it was finally time to get a 5e3.

Recorded with a shure sm-7 a little off access pointed towards the edge of the cone. into a golden age pre 73 neve clone. you're hearing mostly the amp, with a tiny little bit saturation from the preamp.

eq'ed slightly to cut some of the mids and boost the highs just slightly...

please don't hate on my playing skill. i like to think what I lack in technical skill i make up for with soul. just me, a LP, and my fingers.

  • but this fuzzy mud stuff from a tweed style really fits what hes playing here, not good for hard rock tho hehe

  • well, i am 58 still play every weekend. played on some major tours. own a real 59 and other fender tweeds. i am sorry, but this sounds nothing like mine. i have also owned a richter supra, a mission 5e3 and played through the new reissues. they all failed the test. maybe its the recording. will try to post my best danny gatton licks on you tube with my 59 tweed deluxe so there will be a barometer.

  • @124slowhand Not even close to terrible. This has dark brown sugar rumbling break up under articulate ringing notes. A layering like I've never heard out of a single amp. I don't hear one terrible sounding about this unless your a fan of what modern radio thinks is music.

  • sounds terrible.

  • Cool amp. I'm getting ready to build one from a kit. You're right, it does sound a bit wooly. If you put in a Jensen C12N speaker and replace one of the pre-amp tubes with the lower gain 12AY7 tube, the amp will get tighter and cleaner. Then you can drive the front end with an HBE Doomsday Device pedal. Of course you might as well buy a Mesa- except Mesas aren't as cool as a Tweed Deluxe.
