I'm learning to sit the trot bareback (is there any other way to trot bareback? XD). Yes I'm bouncy and a bit out of control but this is only my 2nd try so it's not too bad! Blue has a nice slow, smooth trot too so that helps.
Horse is "Blue" a 20-something QH: former roping horse turned lesson horse.
Final note: I do NOT recommend this for men!
The way I learned was to lean back some in my saddle

Of all things, I have most trouble sitting the trot bareback. All the other gaits I have mastered, with and without a saddle. Its difficult because with a saddle, i have stirrups that offer to some extent an "anchor" so to speak. I can use my legs to help balance my weight. But it's the bareback trot that gets me all the time. I can't keep it up for long without loosing my balance. I've been working at it for over a year, but have not mastered the technique yet. Any tips?

@HunterJumperGal98 oh tell me about those diagonals! I can never keep up with them on a fast tempo horse! and worst still when it's fast tempo AND with suspension!

@Gallophome30 yeah my trainer did bareback no bridle and you had to extend your arms and just breath i can gallop that way now but i dont do no hands on galloping cause the horse i have is an ex race horse 4 years old and he takes off but i love him to pieces

when you first start trotting bareback it helps me to ride if i scoot up a little so once i can get my grip with my legs just right you can gently ease down and it makes the horse happy then being so bumpy on his back and since your just learning you are doing pretty good i am galloping and cantering bareback and the cantering i can now do no hands

@msprettypink12345 Its kind of like you have to find the diagonal of the horse and then instead of posting swing your hip towards the outside when his outside shoulder moves forward, and when his outside shoulder comes in, swing your hip to the inside
