Another excellent talk. I think the reason the "habit" of LPs has stuck has a lot to do with the songwriter-as-performer revolution of the 60s. Ever since then (really back to Buddy Holly), popular music has worked best when the headliner is also the creator. As a songwriter and record creator, it is not as simple as (a) write & record, (b) talk about it, ad infinitum - a continuous streak of singles. When you create you want to keep creating. It's process flow that spurs the batch release.
