Northumbria University is establishing a contemporary model of excellence for British universities in the 21st century and its graduates enjoy one of the highest employment rates in international education. Research and enterprise supports high quality teaching and learning, and the institution delivered the greatest improvement of any uni in Britain in the last Research Assessment Exercise (2008). In eleven of the twelve fields assessed Northumbria is conducting "world leading" work. This year Northumbria is completely refurbishing its Students' Union, and building an amazing £30m indoor sports arena for the students, staff and people of Newcastle upon Tyne. Voted 'Best Student City' two years running, Newcastle is a fabulously welcoming and charismatic place, packed with great facilities. Students and academic staff from more than 140 countries live and work on some of the most cosmopolitan campuses in international higher education. Northumbria University delivers access to the professions and provides higher level University education for lawyers, healthcare practitioners, designers, architects and surveyors, business leaders, teachers and senior managers across the science, engineering and creative sectors. Fashion programmes for 2010 now have a base in Islington London, as well as in Newcastle upon Tyne, and Northumbria is the largest provider of UK degree level education in Hong Kong, with substantial operations in Malaysia, North Africa and the Caribbean.
