i attempted to, but it seems much harder to explain in youtube text. it's much easier in person when i can sing to people what i hear.
don't get me wrong, i'm a HUGE fan of both but i hear so much bob dylan influence in his patterns and melodies and yet i've seldom heard him site Dylan as an influence.
my mood, then, was to try to call people out on their "sources" but it seems it's impossible to be 100% unique when working within pop music.
have you tried to comparatively listen to them?

I will never forget that show. It was a great night! The crowd sung happy birthday to Mike Mogis's Daughter. I think the whole band enjoyed themselves!

I think I could drink whiskey sours and watch performances by this man for the rest of my life and not feel like I am missing out on a thing. Thank you...for this song and the countless others that have been a big blanket of comfort over the years
