Well my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on
I'm just paying my rent every day
Oh in the Tower of Song

I said to Hank Williams: how lonely does it get?
Hank Williams hasn't answered yet
But I hear him coughing all night long
A hundred floors above me
In the Tower of Song

I was born like this, I had no choice
I was born with the gift of a golden voice
And twenty-seven angels from the Great Beyond
They tied me to this table right here
In the Tower of Song

So you can stick your little pins in that voodoo doll
I'm very sorry, baby, doesn't look like me at all
I'm standing by the window where the light is strong
Ah they don't let a woman kill you
Not in the Tower of Song

Now you can say that I've grown bitter but of this you may be sure
The rich have got their channels in the bedrooms of the poor
And there's a mighty judgement coming, but I may be wrong
You see, you hear these funny voices
In the Tower of Song

I see you standing on the other side
I don't know how the river got so wide
I loved you baby, way back when
And all the bridges are burning that we might have crossed
But I feel so close to everything that we lost
We'll never have to lose it again

Now I bid you farewell, I don't know when I'll be back
There moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track
But you'll be hearing from me baby, long after I'm gone
I'll be speaking to you sweetly
From a window in the Tower of Song

Yeah my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on
I'm just paying my rent every day
Oh in the Tower of Song

'Janie Jones Trip * * * The Clash tribute'
- Mikkim - [ Crossroads 2010 ]

He's in love with a-rock 'n' roll, whoa
He's in love with getting stoned, whoa
He's in love with a-Jaine Jones, whoa
He don't like his boring job no...

He's in love with a-rock 'n' roll, whoa
He's in love with getting stoned, whoa
He's in love with a-Jaine Jones, whoa
He don't like his boring job no...

An' he know what he'd got to do
He know he's gonna have fun with you
Hey, hey!
And he knows when the evening comes when his job is done
He'll be over in his car for you
At the Disco

He's in love with rock 'n' roll, whoa
He's in love with a-getting stoned, whoa
He's in love with a-Jaine Jones, whoa
He don't like his boring job no...

In the in-tray lots of work
But boss at the firm always thinks he shirks
Be he's just like everyone he's got a Ford Cortina
That just won't run without fuel

He's in love with a-rock 'n' roll, whoa
He's in love with getting stoned, whoa
He's in love with his Jaine Jones, whoa
He don't like his boring job no...

An' the invoice don't quite fit
No payola in his alphabetical file
This time he's really gonna tell the boss
This time he's really gonna show the boss
Gonna really let him let him know exactly how he feels
It's pretty bad!

He's in love with rock 'n' roll, whoa
He's in love with getting stoned, whoa
He's in love with Jaine Jones, whoa
But he don't like his boring job
Let them know
Let them know

'Leonard Cohen has been a major influence for artists, musicians, poets, writers and thinkers for more than 50 years. He is considered as one of the Godfathers of folk and poetic rock and is held in high esteem by musicians, singers and artists. I have personally seen Cohen as a pillar of inspiration and as a master wordsmith whose ability to create disturbing narratives alongside surreal juxtapositioned images. From his achingly beautiful love songs to his social and political critical anthems, Cohen has been a part of our growing up process. His wit, wisdom, humour and cynicism along with melodies thumped out on an old guitar are lasting and meaningful to many generations and to this day, new generations discover him for themselves. At the age of 74, Cohen is still on a world tour playing to sold out audiences.' ~ Gordon Froud

"Altered Pieces" will open on 20 August 2011 @ 14:00 at PanDora Art House. The exhibition will then travel Aardklop Music Festivalin October and Oliewenhuis museum and Grande Provence Wine Estate early next year.
