The Marque Machine is a self-portrait sculpture made from found objects, scavenged materials, and antiquated technology.
The pedistal is a wooden monolith found outside an artist studio. Inside of the retangular plexiglass box resides a video monitor submerged in clear liquid and playing a video loop of the artist's eyes. The deep meditative chanting of Tibetan Kyoto Monks can be heard quietly eminating from the piece. Seemingly defying logic, the submerged monitor operates without any interferance from the bubbling fluid.
The material nature of the sculpture conjures images of a machine-human hybrid - a being with both organic and mechinical qualities. This hybrid entity is made all the more uncanny by the way it serenely gazes back at the observer, creating a dynamic non-verbal dialogue between the sculpture and the viewer.
this is kinda weird.....
