The Whiteside Theatre Foundation was formed for public charitable and educational purposes, specifically with the intent of acquiring, restoring, and reopening the historic Whiteside Theatre in downtown Corvallis, Oregon.
This single-screen 922-seat movie palace was built in 1922 with state-of-the-art construction materials and techniques and is remarkably intact today. The Whiteside Theatre Foundation supports a multi-purpose entertainment and events venue in the restored historic Whiteside Theatre to enhance economic vitality and cultural diversity in downtown Corvallis for the benefit of the entire community.
The Whiteside Theatre was closed by Regal Entertainment Group in 2002 due to a broken sewer line and it has sat vacant and for sale ever since then.
On February 22, 2008 Regal Entertainment Group graciously offered to donate the theatre to Whiteside Theatre Foundation (as Friends of the Whiteside Theatre).
The Friends of the Whiteside are launching a membership drive and fundraising campaign to underwrite the costs of restoring the 86-year-old theater, estimated at about $1.5 million. In the meantime, they've put a new message on the downtown theater's marquee: "Thank you, Regal."

How many historic preservation hobbyists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I love this theater. I have such great memories from this place (like the first Harry Potter movie). I hope that the restoration goes smoothly and this gorgeous theater comes back to life.
