Actually by Federal Law the US Postal Office in the only one that can charge money for letters. The others are not allowed to charge money for letters.

A public plan would help people. So what if taxes increase for people who are already filthy rich? The people who NEED affordable healthcare will likely not get any tax increase.

In order to function, the government needs to spend money. Maybe we could cut the unnecisarrily huge military budget to make up for it.

But no, we can't do that! We need to spend money on defense so we can arrest people who look like terrorists even if they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!

If the gov really wanted to help,then let me deduct everything I spend on healthcare before I pay taxes. That would make it affordable. But it would diminish their power over me. They would never let that happen.
