On a Saturday afternoon, Penn Rail Videos is on-hand at the McHugh Locomotive and Crane shop facility in Fairless Hills, PA. J.C. McHugh is doing some of the final tests on the locomotive, and will run it back and forth a few times using the remote control. We'll see a view from inside the cab, the engineer's side, and the fireman's side of the locomotive. Sit back and enjoy this little clip show something very unique. The locomotive was rebuilt for the ArcelorMittal Steel Mill company, which own the former Lukens Steel Mills in both Coatesville and Conshohocken, PA.

  • i wonder if this engine is at mittal steel in east chicago, indiana

  • @whitingguy No. Coatesville, PA.

  • SW-9s are quite rare nowadays; is it common to refit them for remote control? And I thought the law said you had to have warning lights on a remote control locomotive.

  • @douro20 That's what the strobe lights are for. They weren't on for testing purposes.

  • What's with this new-fangled remote control? In my day, an engineer and a fireman rode in the cab.

  • you know model trains are cheaper...

  • That is so cool, love that roots blower!,thanks for sharing

  • These old engines could be controlled via air pressure, in the event you needed more than one in a consist for power, is this controlled with air pressure?
