Originally released as a single on Columbia in May 1966. It is based on an earlier song of hers, one entitled "17 Pink Sugar Elephants". The melody and chord structure are near identical:

The song featured in an American advert for Reebok/NFL, entitled "Join the Migration":

The song also features in the Samsung Smart TV advert:

Many folk wish to know the lyrics to the song, so here they are:

---------------------------

Train Song (Bunyan/Clayre)

Travelling north, travelling north to find you
Train wheels beating, the wind in my eyes
Don't even know what I'll say when find you
Call out your name love, dont be surprised

It's so many miles and so long since I've met you
Don't even know what I'll find when I get to you
But suddenly now I know where I belong
It's many hundred miles and it won't be long

It wont be long
It wont be long
It wont be long

Nothing at all in my head to say to you
Only the beat of the train I'm on
Nothing I've learnt all my life on the way to you
Only our love that's over and gone

It's so many miles and so long since I've met you
Don't even know what I'll find when I get to you
But suddenly now I know where I belong
It's many hundred miles and it won't be long

It wont be long
It wont be long
It wont be long

---------------------------

Her other well-known song is "Diamond Day" from 1970:

This song became familiar in the UK, thanks to a most peculiar T-Mobile ad:

  • It's a shame that we knew this song only from a samsung commercial

  • first time, i heard this song along with lyrics..it bought a drop of tear in my eyes...Her voice was like a feather touch...night breeze...twikling stars...I am defiently sure, music lovers missed her voice, because she was nt successful at 60's..But still after 30 years, she gets this credit of 1 million youtube hits...

    Rocking Vashti Bunyan!!!!

Yes, nothing is meant to be exhausted in any respect. It seems all right that any corporate radio station can revolve a 12 song playlist for an entire month and get away with it. Sorry for the misfortune, should of told the boss to play the record through at least.

  • @TheHeadShamen I find this very funny, good luck with ur job

  • BEST. SONG. EVER.

  • I got here because I heard the Feist cover on Dark Was The Night.

  • does anybody has chords for this or tabs for this song?

  • i got this from the nfl commercial

  • youtube.com/watch?v=7ykCCvziDBM

  • @cellphonestinks this song got famous from another commercial like 5 of 6 years ago ...but i knew it from the Samsung commercial and told everybody that i know about it

  • @cellphonestinks I learned it at school when I was ten.

  • This song is on repeat all day at my work. A 2.17 minute song, 9 hours a day, 5 days a week!!! Fucking hate it with a passion. I challenge any of you lovers of it to listen to it 1244 times every week. Train accidents in the news actually make me happy, well, not really.
