Joe Sakato is asked about national discrimination against Japanese Americans during World War II. High Quality Presentation. 442d Regimental Combat Team. Most decorated military unit during the 2d World War. Joe Sakato received the Distinguished Service Cross and severely wounded taking him out of action. Returning to the United States he was unaware of his honors and heard so from his brother while recovering from his wounds in Seattle, Washington. Even though he was a mighty soldier, he wasn't recognized and honored with the Medal of Honor until 2000 when the initial award of the MOH was properly placed 55 years later. It has been my honor to know a most humble Mr. Sakato.
