Kelly Kloepping, a 1995 UW-Whitewater graduate, speaks about UW-Whitewater and how she uses what she learned at her current job with Special Olympics Wisconsin
My name is Kelly Kloepping and I am a 1995 graduate from UW-Whitewater, Go Warhawks!
I went to the school of communications; I was a Public Relations major and a Journalism minor.
And I am now the vice president of Communications here at Special Olympics Wisconsin where I have been for ten years.
I was lucky enough that I applied to three different universities around Wisconsin and Whitewater was really the only one out of the three I visited because I had heard they had a good public relations program. At that time really not too many universities had a PR major. They had communications or strategic something or other or you know, the different names they called them. Whitewater actually had a public relations branch and I was extremely excited about that so I really didn't hesitate to say this is where I'm going. At that time it was really exciting because I had started writing for the Royal Purple, the newspaper, and I was pretty young on campus and one of my first big responsibilities was to write about the entire master plan for UW and the new look that Whitewater was going to take. And now of course ten years ago Whitewater took on this new look so it was exciting for me to go back and visit and see what I was writing about back then. But Whitewater's professor's I can't speak highly enough of the professors I had. I lived in Heide Hall at that time, it was pretty much my second home, and I just truly enjoyed it. It was just one of those perfect fits for me and I made it out in four years thanks to the professor I had at that time, who was my advisor, a wonderful advisor.
I guess one of the biggest pieces of advice I can give to students is make sure you have a good advisor because there is a lot involved with picking the right classes. A lot of times you can double dip a little bit; kill two birds with one stone, with some of the classes. Those are common sense items that I think a good advisor can really help you with and I think UW-Whitewater certainly gave me that and I made it out in four years, down to the T. So I'm thankful for that and I really think that I am one of the few students, I don't know percentages out there, but most people who work here at special Olympics are not doing what they went to school for and I think I am one of those very few people that really, I'm doing probably about 75 percent of my daily work involves items I learned back at school.

@GroveSM07 I have such full fledged enthusiasm that I feel so sorry that Kelly Kloepping has never ended up crippled like former Alabama governor George Wallace did in the name of Private Jessica Lynch who was wounded in Iraq!

Loved the intro! Kelly seemed like a really fun person to interview. I also liked hearing from someone who has been in their job for ten years.

The alumni stayed enthused with what she was talking about and the few different camera angles is great.

She has a lot of energy and is good at the whole interview thing. I also like the angle that has the various punctuation marks on the wall, as it makes it look like she said something that had to be bleeped.

I wished you would have indicated which questions you had asked her. She clearly has a great personality and you captured that well. I liked the black outline throughout the film. It feels like a widescreen DVD. Not sure if you did that on purpose or just a stroke of luck.
