Bava made the sequel during a period when his father passed away. He was not into the film mostly for this reason & the producers put a lot of crap in it that I am certain Bava did not approve of....despite all this, it has it's moments & Bava manages some interesting sequences regardless.
I think this made for TV special probably had most of the songs excised from the original AIP film...which was originally intended as a musical..it's pretty good.
I think the reason the sequel turned out the way it did is because they made it a sequel to two movies at the same time. Besides being a sequel to the first Goldfoot movie, it was also a sequel to a then-recent hit by Ciccio and Franco. I've seen the Italian version of "Girl Bombs" and it features a number of scenes that don't appear in the U.S. version (and vice versa). I think that if you took the footage from both movies, edited them together it, and redubbed it could be a very funny movie.
Actually I think this is better than the original. First, the movie was too long and 30 minutes seems about right for this. Tommy Kirk, Aron Kincaid and Harvey Lembeck made this much more enjoyable, they were better suited to this movie instead of Frankie Avalon and Dwayne Hickman. Interesting to hear the Frankie & Annette beach movie closing theme played by the band in Part 2.
Yeah, despite the fact that "Bikini Machine" isn't that great, the sequel is actually unwatchable. I rented "Girl Bombs" and I just couldn't finish it-it's pretty terrible and cheap, even by Roger Corman standards!
Oh man, I was so dissapointed by "Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs", I'm glad I found this. It's much more like the original, and honestly, this makes a better "sequel" than "Girl Bombs" did! Thanks for posting this!

Personally, I blame the Italians.
