I discovered Elmore James when I was 18. What a discovery too. He sings his guts out, that man.
I don't have his "wail" so I just try and sing it my way. I accidently picked up a steel string guitar (which I'm
not used to playing (is has a hard action)(and the strings are OLD!!) I just went with it in the end. I haven't been attempting solos on guitar for very long either. It's hard for me. Just gotta keep practicing huh!?

  • Great! I love this song. When I got into slide guitar a year ago I downloaded a Robert Johnson and Elmore James album for examples of slide, not knowing the the deep relationship between blues and slide. I listened to the Elmore album first and this song was the first song on the album. The first blues song I REALLY listened to. I'd love to do a cover myself one day. But I really dug your take on this.

  • thanks, I probably should do this one again though. I picked up the wrong guitar (rusty old steel string)

I'd really like to learn a lot more blues techniques. My life just seems to get busier (doing stuff I don't want to do unfortunately)

Elmore is awesome. You can't go wrong with Elmore. Have a go at doing this song, it's a beauty. I should have practiced way more before I did mine though! (:))

  • I loved it! i will put a video response with my slide !

  • fantastic, cant wait to hear it!!

  • yep, I'll do this one again

  • The only things you need are a better guitar and a little more work on your vocal phrasing. Your feel is killer and your voice is excellent. You have the right idea, but the delivery needs some refining.

Also, check out Lonnie Johnson, Blind Blake and Howlin' Wolf.

  • thanks for the feedback!

I've had a listen to Lonnie Johnson and Howling Wolf but not heard of Blind Blake (why are all these guys blind??) I will have a listen to him too, thanks (:))PPQ
