Retiring the Tomcat allowed the navy to deploy a carrier carrying an fleet of F-18E/Fs capable of doign everything from A2A, A2G, Inflight Refueling, etc etc. and now they navy only has to carry with them Parts for one airframe instead of 5 (F-14A, F-14B, F-14D, F/A-10A-D, F-18E/F.)
They Navy Did manage to Put 94,000 People out of their jobs w/ Grumman, and put alot of Navy RIOs looking for a new career path, or retire.
