I've had the same problem. Sometimes it happens when then curved lined aren't flat on the ground. Try with a simpler bowl shape. Also make sure that your arc shape is flat. If the shape is curved wrong it won't FOLLOW when you use the FOLLOW ME tool.
Try rotating after you make the shape to check it's straight.
