The Tragedy of the Commons is drawn from the famous article by renowned biologist Garrett Hardin. The film begins with a historical example of farmers sharing their benefits—but not the responsibilities — of common pasture lands. This encompassing film studies the distribution of resources, the clash of personal values, and a variety of possible outcomes and solutions. Endorsed by and produced in conjunction with Biological Sciences Curriculum Study. 23 minutes, color.

  • Hardin's theory doesn't assume that "people are so bad man." That's a strawman argument you're knocking down. Hardin is saying that unless you have regulation or private ownership, that common resources will be used up. It has nothing to do with good or evil.

I agree. It works on the assumption that everyone will take their fill and more, thus depleting the commons. I say that the results of these actions are bad, rather than people are purposefully consuming more than they can be replenished(however I believe in God and therefore believe that humans, by nature, are sinners). In any case, its like Communism. The idea of people getting an equal share is good. However, the outcome is a bit negative.

  • @remix1on1 cause he has no argument

  • I am thinking India and China, among others are a primeexample of "Tragedy of Commons". China has taken strict measures to curb its population growth (which kind of sounds inhumane, but necessary considerign the situation). How about for India - a free democracy. I am not sure how effective the family planning has been, but the population growth is spiraling towards uncontrollable situation. If this continues resources will become scarce and the quality of life goes down..and thus proving

  • There are bad things but I say that compared to Communism or Socialism, Republican religious right wing America is the greatest!!
