Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Chip moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating from Walnut Hills High School and from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He entered Naval Aviation Flight Training, earning his Naval Aviator wings in 1969, and served in Texas, California, Viet Nam, and the Philippines, transferring to the Naval Reserve in Columbus, Ohio, in 1978.

In Columbus, Chip began a career with AT&T, working in various sales and management positions, transferring to San Antonio in 1990. Chip retired from the Navy in 1993, and from AT&T in 1998. After completing a stint in technical management with Logix Communications in 2004, Chip entered the real estate profession, joining Coldwell Banker D'Ann Harper, Realtors® in 2007. Chip has earned his Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designations. Further, he is a graduate of the 2008 Texas REALTOR® Leadership Program (TRLP).

Chip and his wife, Linda, live in northwest San Antonio. Their older daughter, Jennifer Whetstone, son-in-law Jim, and grandsons Zachary, Andrew and Matthew, live in Dublin, Ohio, and their younger daughter, Sally Davis, son-in-law Britt, and grandsons Bryson and Logan, live in Anacortes, Washington.
