@DonnyDownunder Calling it a face shovel is a result of people not using the full name. Common practice is to refer to them as shovels. My point here, is that the guy arguing so vehemently that it's not an excavator, is arguing a moot point. As, in reality, it is an excavator. I run them every day, and we simply call them shovels, as does everybody else that works with them. But, to argue that it's not an excavator is just someone who doesn't know, as it is a form of excavator.

@alco424 Hmmm well yes a shovel is a form of excavator I guess and so is a front end loader and a spade and anything else that digs dirt out of the ground but being that the bucket faces forward the correct terminology would be to call it a face shovel as the manufacturers do.......
