Obama Uses Recess Appointment to Install Cordray As Consumer Watchdog Head

President Obama bypassed congress to recess appoint Richard Cordray as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The watchdog agency, fiercely opposed by Republicans, had been overseen by Elizabeth Warren. However, Warren faced so much opposition that Obama eventually withdrew her from consideration and instead chose her deputy, Cordray. Warren is currently running for the democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts.

Cordray is the former Attorney General of Ohio.

Obama should have done this when Warren was up to be appointed. At least Warren is running for Senator of my state. I support Obama's decision, even though it late.

President Obama was well within his rights to appoint Richard Cordray to lead the CFPB as a recess appointment - it was the ignorant & obstructionist tea party mob that was violating the Constitution by not holding confirmation hearings for Richard Cordray.

@rickiex This NDAA is made to protect the 1% against the 99%.Congress has proven to be working for the 1% and not the ppl.Yes I did hear that Sen Levin claims he got a letter from Obama requesting this addition of the indefinite detention but,I could find no proof of such a letter.I distrust the whole Congress w/the exception of a very few more than I distrust Obama & the approval numbers reflect this seemingly odd position.but, believe me I feel your sentiment.

well, king obama strikes again. Congress says no and obama does it anyway. Our system of government is set up to PREVENT this from happening. Obama is'nt just spitting in the face of congress but also in the face of the people they are sent there to represent. Why does this surprise anybody?
