  • Other methods to make wheat gluten that I've seen involve lots of washing the gluten to remove the starches. You don't wash your gluten at all?

  • @MrUnidyne No. The wheat gluten becomes very sticky when wet, so I think that it would be difficult to wash it. Thanks for asking!

  • @VegetarianLibrarian Do you have to use Gluten flour, or can you use ordinary flour?

  • @MrUnidyne: Yes...you need to use vital wheat gluten.

  • @MrUnidyne BUT! You can make seitan from wheat flour and nutritional yeast flakes - look up some recipes to make it home made, its VERY cost effective

  • the log of satan! LOL!

  • thanks for making this....i've been looking for this recipe. :-)

  • It seems to me, using a food processor to mix your dough, actually over worked the gluten, and caused it to become too elastic. Ive made seitan (say-tan) and used the bowl method, turned out perfect. anyway thanks for sharing this vid. great recipe.

  • heil seitan!

  • @MrUnidyne What you're thinking of is making seitan with regular wheat flour, and washing the starches off to make wheat gluten. If you start with vital gluten like she does, there's no washing necessary.

  • It's not pronounced Sa-tan...please pronounce it correctly, and did u say "hail satan" at the end????

  • @MrUnidyne the Gluten is made by washing the starch out of wheat flour leaving the protein saturated endosperm, but you can by vital wheat gluten which is flour without starch :)

  • "hail seitan" lol

  • um. I love you guys.

i just made my first batch of seitan and it came out kinda weird and spongy. You have inspired me to try again!
