  • You're right! She was great but this role wasn't for her!

  • wow, definitely not her role haha she wasnt even 40 here, theres NO reason to be sining this down a whole step, if you cant sing the top notes in the prime of your career, you shouldnt sing the role. some of its sloppy, and the high notes still sound terrible, even in a lower key.

  • mhm...average...many mistakes nothing good

  • Transposed down, frequently flat and off pitch and without any punchiness to it. Completely meaningless. She shouldn't have tried it.

  • Even operas she didn't like she sang fabulosly!!this may be this or that, but, SHE was our JOAN!! The LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!Thank You for the last 43yrs of my life DEAREST LADY!!!

  • Zu tief

  • Contrary to another poster(elsewher on YouTube) Joan and Rickie had a wonderful and happy married life.Yes,it completely revolved around music, but when Rickie was away Joan was never happy.Of course they weren't apart often, and fitted together like one unit.

I am glad Rickie is stiill conducting etc.

Both Rickie and Joan were a big part of my life for some years, and I will not let anyone tarnish my memories.

  • Technically OK,but it doesn't really suit Joan's voice.

Quite how (or why) she sang this after the 1959 Lucia's I am not sure.

She told me (when I worked at Covent Garden) that she didn't like the part at all, and had no empathy with it'I wonder if this is why it doesn't sound quite right for her?

Thank goodness that from then on she (or rather Rickie) chose parts that were right for her.

Too many people criticise Rickie.Just remember, without him we would have had no Joan.

  • Well, she ain't a Mozart singer. She hits the notes alright but has absolutely no clue as to what she is singing. She is belcanto.

  • ma la deutekom!!!

  • Exactly. She is off pitch, sorry, but that is the truth! And yes, Damrau does NOT have the agility that singers like Lucia Popp or Erika koth had! Listen to heri versions of this aris and your breath will be taken away! It was the old, CORRECT way of singing... It no longer exists! What a pity... They often shout these days! But here Sutherland does a bad job, sorry!!!

  • Is it my hears or is she wrong some times ?

    No, no and no !
