Ask Dr. Mona: I got to diagnosed with a hyper thyroid. The doc said it is auto immune disease. Which causes which? I am only 33 this year, am I too young to get it? The joints on my hands (and I suspect knees too) are painful and swollen. My GP said he will not prescribe any medicine for my pain as I will be seeing the thyroid specialist next week so that the specialist will assess my condition better. Will the auto immune disease (the doc said mine is graves disease) lead to another fa[more]tal sickness? I am so worried tat my life is not long. How long will the patient with auto immune disease survived? Please advise.
Thanking u in advance. [less]

  • I'd like to see her have this disease then see if she feels 'fine' and all happy and sunshine and rainbows. -___-;

  • This woman is a quack!!! I have GD and I feel like crap all the time. Methimazole only lessened my symptoms but "I am not feeling fine"!!!

  • was diagnosed with graves in '92 got radiated. take synthroid. Feeling NOT fine is more common than "fine". It is a constantly evolving situation. Blood tests every 6 mos. don't always tell the day to day story. Yes I feel better on my synthroid or levothyroxine but, Your day to day metabolism changes quicker than your constant dose of medicine. So good days and really bad days, sometimes in stretches.

    dont expect that your antithyroid pills will work like an aspirin for a headache. It may take a couple of weeks before your feel fine if your hyperthyroidism is mild or moderate, but if your hyperthyroidism is sever it may take as long as several months under medication before you feel well again.

  • this video is crap

  • this is crap

  • uh... the thyroid is not located that high, its at the base of the neck.

  • @Novagreyhound I am sure she is not a doctor, she just slept at a howard johnson last night.
