This has just popped up for me and I was spellbound as always by that voice. What a good sound they made together. Managed to get to see him twice on his visits to the UK. Magic.

I first saw John in the late 60's in Westwood CA with the Chad Mitchell group. I followed him from that point forward. Saw him many times in person, including his ski-classic in So. Lake Tahoe when we lived there. Miss him greatly...RIP JOHN!

@geffrydescallar never thought of this song as loving a child, always thought of it as being for a girlfriend or something, the same with "follow me" and "leaving on a jet plane"

John wrote this song for his early girlfriend, Bobbi at the time when he was starting out. On some albums it is spelled Bobbie; I'm not quite sure which one's correct. However, Mary Travers also covered this song but instead interpreted it as a parent-to-child song, hence the other title "For Baby". John said at one point that he thought of both to be right, so that's why the song has two names as both have different meanings but are accepted.

@IBScaramouche THe title is "For Bobbi (for baby)" or so the sheet music says. Maybe he couldn't decide on the title.

The group has released this song under the title of "For Bobbi".. One wonders what the deal is. It's a great tune/lyrics/performance combination, but what shall we call it? I've had the CD of them doing this for about fifteen years.

@pedonbio LUCKY YOU!!!
Just wonderful!! How sweet for them to be together again. All 3 seem so happy to be reunited on stage. Chad Mitchell Trio were fine entertainment in their day.
Always a favorite song of mine too!.
John is missed soooo much. It's close to being unbearable!! RIP JOHN DENVER.

I have followed John since I first saw him in 1970 and actually bought a couple of Chad Mitchell trio albums (remember the big vynal records) in the early 60's. I have most of John's records, tapes, and CD's and one of his songbooks. He was a great artist/writer and I am still very saddened by his death.... but he left us with a bunch of memories and joyous music to listen to.
