Leonardo Leo (1694-1744)
'Sant' Elena al Calvario' (1732)
Oratorio in 2 parts
Libretto: Pietro Metastasio
Sant' Elena's aria
Nel mirar quel sasso amato,
che raccolse il sommo Bene,
mi ricordo le sue pene,
mi rammento il nostro error.
Parmi questo il dì funesto,
che spirò l'eterna Prole,
e che il volto ascose il sole
per pietà del suo Fattor.

He sounds quite a bit like Bach, and I'm not just saying this because it's Baroque music. Bach was quite a bit different from most Baroque composers- his own, idiosyncratic style seems to have been his and his alone. However, a few parts of this resemble quite a few of his passages, maybe because of its mathematical structure. (?)
This was definitely quite a special composer. Did he have some sort of relation to Bach?

What do you mean by relation?
Well, they both stayed true to the old style of music and never embraced the new developments.
Just compare Leo with Pergolesi and you see what i mean.
