Gas log fireplace is a total joke! Good choice going green'ish

@paddlefish04 would you know if all cement board is mold resistant?
-
@dankbobby That is correct. This is not exactly a kosher installation.
-
What are the clearances from the back of the stove to the rear wall?

great vid, i am doing some thinking maybe doing one myself. thanks for posting your vid. PS glad kitty is doing ok.

Nice work but you should use cement backer board then tile over that. Insurance guy might not like this and I bet its not code.

@smithriverdude the mold resistant cement board is typically used behind the tiles in bathroom applications or in other high moisture places in the home. Regular cement board is more pourous and will absorb water fairly easily, giving it a greater chance to develop mold or mildew.

btw..it was mold resistant cement board that I used...not sheetrock or any thing else. I checked code specs before I used it as a backer. Hey..I don't want to burn down my house!!

Great job, it looks nice! We are just trying to decide how to build a hearth for ours too.

@loriadkins so far it has saved us over 2000 gallons of propane...easily paying for the cost of the install and the stove. We love it and will never own a house without one. Good luck on your project!
