they shot 16mm, one because of budget limitations, but also as an artistic choice. they also shot the subway scene with a 7D because of it's small size and portability. Just imagine if you went onto a subway with a big film camera, lights and a 10 man crew, they would attract so much attention they wouldn't get anything shot, but with the 7D they are able to get in, get the shots they need and get out without attracting any attention to themselves.

@kerplunka409 I know, and it looks fine! The picture does have a certain grittier quality, but I don't mind that. I run a film school and we use the Arri SR3 and the Canon 5Ds. I will expect more from my students from now on!

@EFFANDJEFF a Canon 7D was also used on Black Swan (for the subway scenes, they shot with no permission)
