General Assembly 2010: Mrs Val Morrison and the Revd Dr Kirsty Thorpe' induction as Moderators

The induction of the two new moderators of General Assembly, Mrs Val Morrison and the Revd Dr Kirsty Thorpe. This is the first time that the URC General Assembly has had two moderators -- one minister and one elder - and as the first joint post holders, Val and Kirsty acknowledge that sharing the role is a journey into the unknown, but are both looking forward to it, particularly the opportunity to play to their strengths and have an impact, together and separately, on the United Reformed Church and the wider world.

In inducting two women to share this senior role, the URC has made history. The denomination has a long history of recognising both the lay and the ordained ministry of women and, in many ways, the induction of Kirsty and Val is a natural step on the path the URC has been following for decades.
