  • I've been playing and singing this as my most favorite song since the late sixties, but this is the first time I've ever seen the composer perform it. What a gift! Thank you very much for sharing it.

  • one of the most beautiful songs I know, whatever version

  • This reminds me of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow is a long time" Its probably similar tuning and picking pattern but i still wonder if one of them was inspired by the other's song. As far as I know they were both written in 1963... Recorded in 1964... Thoughts?

  • thank u Tom Paxton 4 writing & singing such a beautiful song , the Seekers do great justice to your song also.

  • The best version I've heard thus far is Neil Diamond's version. Lee Holdridge's strings accent Neil's version nicely. If you haven't heard Neil's version, it's worth a listen! Tom Paxton's original version is nice also.

    Bravo, Tom!

  • @hanksnow2 competition from foreigners sucks doesn't? tough!

  • Together with four old friends, I flew in to Dublin for Tom Paxton's concert on Sept 28. '11, hoping for a last time to hear the great songwriter sing the songs which made him famous and cherished back in the sixties. But alas, despite of the fact that the concert hall was packed with an audience of his own age, showing up out of nostalgia, he didn't give us what we came for. It was children's songs and some other crap.. But the Guinness and the many great music pubs in Dublin saved the trip.

  • So relaxing...

  • @borders4ever It's not a song with passion....it's a song from the heart. It has truth. Sorry you don't get the "folk scene".

  • @jkoncz I understand the love for Jim, but confused about the "keep America free" part.

Free for who? General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Madoff, Banks, savings & Loan Companies, and all the other rip off artists that have bilked the poor unsuspecting, unprotected, decent, hard working US citizens.

You may call it freedom, but it seems to allow the "Filthy Rich" to enslave the hard working decent people of America & elsewhere. Yes, while 'they' enjoy the fruits of the so called "Freedom", we slave

  • 03:45 1 year later they became long haired hippies.

  • Saw Tom some years ago (not too many), he's a hero! Listen to him...he knows what he's talking about. This song is beautiful. Thanks for posting.
